The name Issachar means ‘there will be recompense and he will bring a reward’. You need to know where they came from. Genesis 49:14-15 tells us that when Jacob was at the point of taking his last breath he called his twelve sons together. He said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in the days to come.” That’s a great father that was there with his twelve boys. He’s transferring their blessing, their anointing and their vision before he dies. You dads need to own something. You’re responsible to give your children prophetic utterances of purpose so they know their destiny.
In verse 14, Jacob starts to define something. He said, “Issachar is a strong donkey, crouching between the sheepfold. He saw that a resting place was good, and that the land was pleasant; he bowed his shoulder to bear a burden, and became a slave at forced labor.” You take that and you say, “Your dad calls you a donkey…” Issachar could have left the room and said, “Gee, I thought I could’ve gotten a word like my brothers got, but my father calls me a donkey.” Oh, but saints! If we can only see the way God sees. The boy is told that he’s a strong donkey lying down between the sheepfold. It was a very true word that came to pass. They inherited a valley called Jezreel, which was a very desirable area. It was well watered, fertile, and suitable for all kinds of grazing and agriculture. It was a prosperous place that God gave them. Say, “Lord, may we get a prosperous place!”
